Faculty Resources: Library Instruction

This guide is an introduction to the library and our services for Lanier Technical College Faculty.

Schedule an Instruction Session

Friendly Lanier Tech librarians are available to provide instruction!  At this time, live instruction will be provided through WebEx and Blackboard Collaborate.  We can also create videos for you to embed in your Blackboard courses, depending on your need.
Subjects we can cover (but are not limited to):

  • Basic GALILEO instruction
  • Database search skills
  • Advance search tips for Google
  • Source evaluation
  • Citation formats

Please reach out to your campus librarian to schedule a visit!

Custom Research Guides

Unsure if library instruction is right for you? Looking for something on a smaller scale?

Let us create a resource guide for your course or assignment! While not true instruction, we can build a guide with content centered a topic of your choosing. The guide can be stand alone or can be a part of a program guide. To see an example, check out our Personal Finance guide for the Accounting course.

Please reach out to your campus librarian and we can start the research guide process!

What is a Library Orientation?

As the instructor, you decide when you feel it is best for a librarian to visit your class.  Library orientations are usually 45-60 minutes long.  A general library orientation agenda covers the following topics:

  • About the library
  • Where to start your research
  • How to narrow your topic
  • Scholarly vs. non-scholarly resources
  • How to evaluate a resource
  • Pro/Con databases
  • Parts of a MLA citation

But what the library orientation covers is completely up to you.  A librarian will work with you to create a customized session for your students that introduces them to the sources and services available in the library that relate to a particular assignment or class.
If you would like to see an example of a library orientation, please watch the video below.  We have also worked with the Psychology Department to develop an extra credit assignment to aid students in correctly formatting APA citations.  You are welcome to watch the video and see the assignment on the Psychology Research Guide.
